May 24, 2026 – The Day of Pentecost

The Spirit Flows from the Cross

As we gather this morning, it is easy to bring the weariness of the week into the pew with us. Between the demands of daily life and the quiet weight of our own sins, we often arrive feeling spiritually dry. Today is the Day of Pentecost, a festival often associated with rushing wind and tongues of fire. But in our Gospel reading from John 7, Jesus uses a different, quieter picture: water for the thirsty. He promises that the Holy Spirit will be to us like rivers of living water. Where do we find that kind of deep, lasting refreshment? As we prepare to hear God's Word today, we will look to a surprising source and see how The Spirit Flows from the Cross.
