Wearing the Right Robes
By nature, we all want to look our best. We spend time and effort dressing up, hoping to impress others with our outward appearance. In our spiritual lives, it is tempting to do the exact same thing. In today’s Gospel, Jesus warns us against the Pharisees, who loved to parade around in elaborate religious garments to show off their supposed holiness to the world. How often do we try to stitch together our own impressive spiritual wardrobes of good deeds, hoping to earn the praise of men or even the favor of God? As we prepare our hearts for worship this morning, we will examine our spiritual closets and discover the profound, humbling comfort that, because of Christ, we are "Wearing the Right Robes."
