On this All Saints’ Sunday, we rightly give thanks for the cloud of witnesses who have gone before us in faith. But God’s Word today, in a sense, turns our attention from the church triumphant to the church militant—to us. It invites us to look in the mirror. What do we see? We see sinners, yes, but more importantly, we see those upon whom the Father has bestowed His great love. We see those “called children of God” (1 John 3:1). We are saints, not by our own merit, but by the pure blood of the Lamb. As we prepare to worship, let us marvel at this present identity and the glorious future hope it contains.
