Rejoice in Weakness?
God’s power, grace, and mercy stands in contrast to our weakness. The psalmist urges us to lift up our eyes to God, especially in times of distress. In the Old Testament Reading, Ezekiel is sent to rebellious Israel to speak the Word of the Lord. Likewise, in the Gospel, Jesus comes to His hometown to teach, but He is rejected. And in the Epistle, we find the theme in its clearest depiction as Paul boasts and rejoices in his weakness, because when he is weak, then he is strong, and God most clearly showcases His power, grace, and mercy.
